Loras College, a Catholic liberal arts college, is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The school, founded in 1839, is the oldest college in Iowa and the second oldest Catholic college west of the Mississippi River. The approximately 1,600 students attending Loras College can choose from more than 40 different majors and programs, including Catholic studies, business management, Greek and Roman studies and architecture, and 13 pre-professional areas of study.

Briar Cliff University is a Catholic and Franciscan school accredited through the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Students can choose from numerous academic majors such as theology, business administration and criminal justice. The school has about 1,100 students with the average classroom size approximately 19 students. Mass is held daily. Prayer and bible study groups meet on Monday and Tuesday nights.

Clarke College also is a Catholic liberal arts college accredited through the Higher Learning Commission. The college was founded in 1843 and is the only Blessed Virgin Mary (Sisters of Charity) college in the United States. The school offers its 1,200 students a variety of degree programs, like nursing, business administration and physical therapy. There are several worship activities, including daily liturgies.
