Kaplan Continuing Education (KCE) was founded in 1937 and is a part of Kaplan University. KCE is an online school which offers undergraduate, associates and certification programs. KCE offers both a medical coding and medical billing certificate program. The medical coding program at KCE teaches students analysis, retrieval, claims processing and compliance maintenance for a successful entry-level position in medical coding. The medical billing program at KCE teaches student reimbursement and claims processing procedures also with the purpose of helping students get a job in the field. Both programs include classes such as health care data, reimbursement methods, coding systems for the medical biller, and medical terminology. KCE and Kaplan University get their accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

Virginia College (VC) was founded in 1983 and had its first campus open in 1992. There are various locations throughout the United States, each offering certification and vocational training opportunities. VC locations such as Mobile, Alabama, Biloxi, Mississippi and Columbia, South Carolina as well as a few others offer a medical billing a coding program which focuses on office protocol. VC combines both in-classroom learning and on-the-job training which helps prepare students for the competitive medical field. VC schools have their accreditation from the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).

Everest College has multiple locations throughout the country including California, Colorado, Arizona and many other states. The medical billing and coding program at Everest teaches students the skills needed to perform functions in administrative health information such as organizing, analyzing, evaluating and coding for insurance claims and billing purposes. With a mixture of hands-on and in-class learning, Everest College graduates generally go on to careers in medical insurance billing and medical receptionist jobs. Accredited to offer many health vocations, Everest teaches classes to billing and coding students such as medical terminology, word processing and insurance coding.
