List of Colleges in East London

There are three main colleges in East London: Queen Mary, University of London; the University of East London; and East London College. The University of East London is relatively young for an English university, whereas Queen Mary, University of London is a much older college, dating back to the 18th century. With varying histories and specialties, each college brings something different to the city's higher-education offerings.

    • East London College, founded in 1995, focuses on the computing, business and teaching fields. Since its inception, ELC has established ties with major universities in the U.K., giving students access to a rich educational environment. The college is also affiliated with U.K. exam bodies for all courses. ELC is an A-Rated Registered Sponsor for Tier 4 student visa sponsorship, a designation awarded by the U.K. Border Agency.

    University of East London

    • University of East London was founded in 1970 upon the merger of the West Ham Technical Institute and the South East Sussex Technical College. The university focuses on art, engineering and science and offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, including doctorates. According to UEL's website, it has received 170 million pounds in investments over the past few years.

    Queen Mary, University of London

    • Of the three main universities in East London, Queen Mary, University of London has the longest and deepest history. Founded in 1785, it is a subsidiary university of the University of London. Queen Mary is also one of the largest colleges in the University of London system and was ranked 13th in the Times Higher Education's Research Assessment Exercise. The university's strengths are linguistics, geography, drama and dentistry.
