This publicly-funded Minnesota Community and Technical College was founded in 1946. The school has two campuses. One is in Mankato, and the other is in Faribault. The college has an annual enrollment of 5,300 students, including 2,700 full-time students. The school offers three different associate's degrees that require two years of full-time attendance. South Central also offers diplomas and certificate programs that require less coursework. Program areas include agribusiness, business, accounting, carpentry, civil technology, nursing, dental assisting, auto body repair, commercial art, culinary arts and construction. Some programs are available only at one of the two campuses.

Founded in 1900 as Rasmussen Practical School of Business, the college provides associate's degree programs as well as four-year bachelor's degree programs. The college has more than 12,000 students who take courses at several campuses and online. In Minnesota, Rasmussen College has campuses in Mankato, Moorhead and five other cities. The Mankato campus is located off State Highway 14. It is the newest of the college's Minnesota campuses. The college offers several associate's degree programs designed to provide students with the technical education needed to succeed in their chosen fields. Available programs include massage therapy, pharmacy technician, accounting, business management, early childhood education, criminal justice and paralegal. The college's School of Technology and Design features associate's degree programs in computer information technology, network administration, web programming, web design and animation.

Located 30 miles east of Mankato along Minnesota State Road 14, Richland is a public two-year community and technical college. The college has three locations. The main campus is in Owatonna. Sister campuses are located in Albert Lea and Austin. Riverland offers associate's degrees, diplomas and certificates in many different technical fields, including accounting, carpentry, computer applications, cosmetology, desktop publishing, diesel technology and welding. Certificate programs, which require less coursework than degree programs, including truck driving, solar power installation, web page design and wind turbine technician.
