As of 2010, NMSU prenursing students must take a total of 10 prerequisite courses before applying to the nursing program. Courses include math and literature in addition to sociology. According to NMSU's website, if you're already an RN and are entering the RN to BSN program, you must also have a current license.
If you're a new nursing student, a minimum GPA of 3.0 on prenursing coursework is needed before you submit your application to NMSU. Current RNs require a 2.5 GPA from previous college experience to qualify for the program, per the NMSU website. Following acceptance into the program, nursing students must make at least a "C" in each class.
Applications for the NMSU nursing program are accepted every spring and fall. According to the NMSU website, the selection process is competitive and 96 students are allowed into the BSN program each year. If you are already a nurse, the RN to BSN program accepts new applicants every summer. The application for the NMSU nursing program can be obtained from the prenursing adviser on campus at the College of Health and Social Services, per NMSU. RN to BSN students can also visit campus for an application or print a copy from the NMSU website (see resources).
