Augusta State is a public school in the University System of Georgia with more than 50 undergraduate and graduate programs, according to the school. Programs are divided into three colleges--the College of Business Administration, the College of Education and the Katherine Reese Pamplin College of Arts and Sciences. In addition to bachelor, master and specialist degrees, a student can earn associate degrees, a paralegal certificate and cooperative doctorates. The school reports that most of the 6,500 students work either part-time or full-time in addition to attending classes.

Future doctors and health-care workers from the 159 counties around the state flock to Augusta to attend the Medical College of Georgia. The school is geared for Georgia residents with approximately 98 percent of the 2,500 students from in-state, according to the college. Medical College of Georgia was founded in 1828, making it the third oldest in the Southeast and the 13th oldest continuously operating medical school in the country, the school reports. The programs are divided into five schools--allied health sciences, dentistry, graduate studies, medicine and nursing.

The school is a historically black college that was founded in 1882 by the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Colored, now Christian, Methodist Episcopal Church, according to the school. The liberal arts school offers a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in 30 majors. The five schools within the college are the Division of Business Administration, the Division of Education, the Division of Humanities, the Division of Natural Sciences & Mathematics and the Division of Social Sciences.
