Maryland Colleges That Offer Business Management Degrees

Several colleges in Maryland offers business degrees geared specifically toward management. Consisting of both public and private institutions, these schools prepare students to enter business through a combination of traditional classroom study, collaborative projects and learning experiences outside of typical classroom settings. Maryland's business management colleges are throughout the state, and grant both undergraduate and graduate-level degrees.
  1. Coppin State University

    • Located in Baltimore, Coppin State University opened in 1900. The school is home to more than 3,200 undergraduate students, 90 percent of which are from Maryland, explains the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. The university's management programs are among its largest and highest-rated baccalaureate degrees. Students graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree and take classes in production and operations, statistics, marketing, communications, finance, human relations and project management. All students may participate in for-credit internships as a part of the major. A number of scholarships are specifically for business students, and the university offers a full federal and state financial aid program as well. Management science students have the option to join professional organizations sponsored by the department. These include a business honor society and the Management Science Society, which brings in guest speakers and organizes social and academic events for students.

    Hood College

    • Established in 1893, Hood College is a private, nonsectarian institution in Frederick. The college's Bachelor of Arts in management major is one of the most popular with its more than 1,400 undergraduate students, reports the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. The degree includes coursework in accounting, organizational behavior, investments, marketing, information systems and business law. It and allows students the option to specialize in fields like accounting, finance, human resource management, international economics and marketing. The college offers opportunities for internships in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., as well as for independent student research in management. Hood College also features a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in business through its graduate school, rated 22nd among universities in the eastern United States by U.S. News and World Report in 2010.

    University of Maryland University College

    • The University of Maryland University College is in Adelphi and specializes in the education of working adults. The public university is home to more than 22,000 undergraduate students, more than 80 percent of which study at the school only part-time, according to the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. The college's Bachelor of Science in management studies requires courses in statistics, business writing, global business, ethics, strategic management and information systems. Students can earn a few credits for previous work experience. The school offers some paid, co-operative work placements, allowing students to gain business management experience and steady income while attending school. The university also offers a Master of Science in management program with 13 areas of specialization, including accounting, criminal justice management, finance, healthcare administration, homeland security management, human resources, information systems, interdisciplinary studies, marketing, nonprofits, procurement and contracts, project management and public relations.
