In 2007, U.S. News and World Report ranked the University of Washington School of Nursing the best nursing school in the United States. The Seattle based, public institution has held the number one ranking since 1983. Approximately 637 students study at the School of Nursing and more than two-thirds of the enrollment consists of graduate students. Master of Nursing (M.N.) programs offered include advanced practice community health systems nursing; nurse midwifery; adult, neontatal or perinatal clinical nurse specialist and adult, neonatal, pediatric or psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. A Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) program is also offered for both nurses and non-nurses who wish to work in nursing research. Students have the option to study full or part-time in most programs and most of the specialties are completable in 18 to 24 months of full-time study. Approximately 230 students are enrolled in the private university's nursing master's programs. The clinical nurse specialist M.S.N. specialty options are forensic nursing and midwifery and nurse practitioner specializations include public health, critical care and adult, family or pediatric healthcare.
