For those seeking a school with national recognition and an accelerated degree program that can be completed in just 12 months, the Northwestern Kellogg School of Management may be one of the better options. "U.S. News & World Report" ranked the Kellogg School as the No. 4 MBA program in the nation for 2010. The 12-month program generally begins in the summer session, and students can complete the program within 12 months if they had met all prerequisites before enrolling. The Kellogg program allows students to determine most of their own course of study. Students in the one-year program have the same opportunity to specialize in various fields as do those in the two-year program. These fields include marketing, technology industry management, finance, health enterprise management, management and strategy, real estate, managerial economics and decision sciences, media management, management and organizations, entrepreneurship and innovation, and international business and markets.

Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, also offers an accelerated 12-month MBA program. The Harding program requires students to take 10 core courses. Unlike the Kellogg School's program, the majority of the courses taken in the Harding MBA program are required rather than elective courses. Students are offered only two elective courses as part of the accelerated program at Harding. Courses are taken in six-to-eight-week blocks, two at a time, for a total of about 12 credit hours per semester. Elective courses allow students some leeway as far as specialization in areas such as information technology management, leadership and organizational management, accounting, health care management and international business.
