The Kellogg EMBA program offered by the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University is designed for mid-career and senior executives. Kellogg offers four executive programs every year with two schedules starting in September--twice-monthly meetings in Evanston or monthly meetings at the Miami campus in Coral Gables, Fl.--and again in January. The course consists of core, advanced and elective courses. The core course covers areas such as an analytical approach to uncertainty; a capstone course on business planning and strategy; ethics and executive leadership; financial reporting systems; foundations of strategy; leadership and organizations; managerial economics; managerial finance; marketing management; operations management; and statistical decision analysis. The advanced courses and elective courses cover areas such as corporate governance; macroeconomics; marketing strategy; negotiation strategies; strategic financial management; advertising strategy; entrepreneurial finance; global initiatives in management; intellectual capital management; marketing channels; real estate finance; mergers and acquisitions; securities analysis; supply chain management; and Wall Street, hedge funds and private equity. For admission into the program, applicants must have a university degree and a minimum of eight to 10 years of work experience. Applicants are not required to take the GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test) unless a review of their transcripts reveals areas of concern. Only applicants who are currently employed are accepted into the program.
The EMBA program offered by the University of Pennsylvania Wharton is a two-year program that begins in the last week of May every year. The students are expected to attend classes on Fridays and Saturdays on alternate weekends. During the duration of the course, there are additional extended sessions along with a week-long international seminar abroad. The program is offered in Philadelphia and San Francisco. The curriculum for the first year covers concepts such as management communication, managerial economics, statistics for managers, corporate finance, financial accounting and marketing strategy. The second year is a mix of core and elective subjects. Some of the electives offered are financial derivatives; geopolitics; international finance; pricing policy; real estate investments; risk and crisis management; and venture capital and the finance of innovation. Applicants should have a university degree and, while are no fixed requirements regarding age and work experience, in general applicants are 30 years of age or older and have a minimum work experience of eight years, five of which should be in a managerial position, preferably at a senior management level or else the applicant should show potential for work at that level.
The EMBA program offered by the University of Chicago Booth School of Business starts in the month of June every year. The duration of the program is 21 months and the concentration options are in marketing, finance or strategy. The curriculum emphasizes strategy and leadership. The 21-month program consists of 15 core subjects and two electives. Some of the areas covered in the program are marketing management; global economics; operations; financial strategy; managerial accounting; quantitative marketing; statistics; and corporate finance for executives. For admission into the program, the applicants need to be employed full-time. The GMAT is not mandatory but is recommended for applicants who have fewer years of work experience and who think their academical achievements do not completely demonstrate their skills and capabilities.
The EMBA program offered by the Ross School of Business in Ann Arbor conducts classes for its EMBA students one weekend per month. Some of the key program topics are economics of business; macroeconomics; cost management; negotiations; financial statement analysis; corporate financial strategy; business ethics; strategic marketing planning; advanced competitive analysis; and corporate governance. There is a Quantitative Skills Workshop (QSW) one month before the EMBA program for candidates who need to refresh their analytical skills. For admission, candidates need to have 10 to 15 years of work experience, with more than five of those in a management or leadership role. The candidate's application must be supported by college transcript(s), current resume, two letters of recommendation, three essays and a statement of corporate support, which is the employer's approval for the applicant's enrollment into the course.
