Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management was ranked as the top marketing program in the nation in 2010. Overall, the entire MBA program at the Kellogg School ranked No. 4 in the nation. The marketing division at Kellogg offers two separate programs: marketing management and marketing. The program has remained the top-rated program in the field for the last 15 years. Faculty members actively research in the field and publish regularly. The result of this scholarly activity has been three textbooks that are considered standards in the areas of sales promotion, marketing management and distribution channels. Students pursue marketing majors as part of the regular MBA curriculum. Students study marketing theory and research while choosing from a number of specialty areas, such as technology marketing, entertainment, media and cultural marketing, consumer marketing and business marketing.

The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania has long been recognized as one of the top schools for students who want an MBA. As a whole, the MBA program ranked fifth in 2010, while the marketing program itself ranked No. 2 overall. Wharton offers a concentration in marketing as part of the traditional MBA program, but it also offers a dual program in marketing and operations management. The curriculum at Wharton is structured so that students take core courses in the first year in areas such as ethics and responsibility, management communications and core business fundamentals, such as marketing program design and marketing strategy. During the second year of the program, students pursue elective courses in their major area of study. The Wharton School offers more than 200 elective courses for graduate students.
