Colleges in New England That Offer Criminal Justice

Many schools in New England offer degrees in criminal justice. Schools offer varying courses in the pursuit of a criminal justice degree, but most center on building a foundation that allows students to enter the criminal justice field in either a practical or teaching position. Schools in New England with criminal justice programs range from major universities to smaller, lesser known schools with criminal justice as a minor instead of a major course of study.

The bachelor of science in criminal justice gives students the foundation and general knowledge required to seek a career in the criminal justice field. Courses include principals of criminal justice, criminal law, courts, society and criminal procedure, and policing the urban milieu and society. Graduate degree courses include history of criminal justice, victomology, youth crime problems and terrorism, and gender and justice. The school's criminal justice major falls under the department of applied social sciences.

    Northeastern University

    • Northeastern University's College of Criminal Justice offers a five-year bachelor of science program along with masters, executive masters and doctoral programs in criminal justice. The undergraduate degree program uses co-ops to alternate between classroom instruction and practical field work. The school allows the student to complete the co-op work anywhere, but a lot of students complete it right in the Boston area. The undergraduate degree curriculum features a core of six courses that include introduction to criminal justice, ethics, values and diversity in criminal justice, criminology, criminal due process, research methods and statistics. The masters program consists of seven courses while the doctoral program consists of two practicum--the teaching practicum and the policy practicum.
