The American Academy of Art focuses on fine arts. According to its website, students can study a number of fine arts, including illustration, graphic design, web design, life drawing, or painting. Although creative writing is not offered as a major, the academy offers several classes in its humanities department that may be of interest to writers.
Through the communications department, the American Academy of Arts offers two classes in English and written communications. According to the online catalog, "Non-fiction, fiction, research and poetry are explored as uses of the writing process" in English Language Arts I.
Both English Language Arts courses are prerequisites to taking Creative Writing, in which students are introduced to different writing styles and genres. Creative Writing is a workshop-style class.
