Each year, approximately 90 students enroll in the Drake University electronic media program, which begins after the student's second year of bachelor degree studies. Electronic media degrees can be pursued in broadcast news or radio television. Classes offered in the degree program include broadcast management, video production, television field photography, radio and digital news reporting and editing. A student-run cable radio station is broadcast on the Internet, on campus and under the FM call letters KDRA-LP. Internships are available with nationwide radio and TV stations, newspapers, magazines and sports teams.

Students pursuing a bachelor's degree in mass communications can select a specialized focus in electronic media at the Texas State University School of Journalism and Mass Communication. More than 50 classes are offered in the program, including audio and video production, television news reporting, web design and publishing and visual storytelling. A master's level course is also offered. There is a radio station, a computer lab and television-editing facilities. Additional learning opportunities are available through partnerships with local chapters of industry groups in the fields of journalism, broadcasting and public relations.

The University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication offers a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science in electronic media. The college offers a premajor curriculum up to a PhD in communication and society. There are 25 electronic media couse offerings, including reporting for electronic media, cyberjournalism, advanced editing and quantitative methods. The school's journalism and communications department was founded in 1925. The student radio station made its first broadcast in 1950.

There are three undergraduate specialty areas with an electronic media concentration at the University of Tennessee Knoxville School of Journalism and Electronic Media: web journalism, print/web journalism and broadcast journalism. More than 40 available electronic media courses are available, including foundations of video production, managing news websites, web editing and layout, sports broadcasting and photojournalism. The department offers degree programs up to a PhD in Communication and Information.
