Colleges With Master's Programs in Wildlife Biology

Obtaining a Master's degree in wildlife biology allows students the opportunity for research and advanced study of animals in their natural habitat. Many schools offering this major are in close proximity to rural areas, major zoos, or wildlife preserves where students can study and research animals closely. Some of the largest schools offering wildlife biology include Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, the University of Montana in Missoula, and Clemson University in South Carolina. However, students can find many schools from coast to coast.
  1. University of Vermont

    • A branch of the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, the University of Vermont has been rated as one of the top environmental schools for its world-class research and laboratory facilities. The school limits enrollment to fewer than 500 students and offers a Master's degree in natural resources with a focus on wildlife biology. Wildlife biology majors study wildlife management and conservation with an emphasis on birds and mammals.

    State University of New York

    • The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry enrolls fewer than 100 graduate students in the fish and wildlife science. Field stations within this program include a 6,000-hectare forest and ecological center, and a biological station in the Adorondack Mountains south of Syracuse, New York. Graduate students earning a Master's degree in wildlife science and biology can fulfill much of their research requirements studying in these wild settings. Studies range from the management of wildlife in forests and urban areas to the restoration of species. Students can also use advanced technology, including satellite imagery and radio telemetry to study the behaviors of animals and measure animal populations.
