The university's Athletic Training Division prepares students pursuing certified athletic trainer careers through a Bachelor of Science in Allied Medical Professions degree. Ohio State has provided athletic training education since 1942, but the school added its Athletic Training major in 2000. The three-year curriculum includes instruction in sports medicine, injury evaluation, emergency management, biomechanics, therapeutic modality and therapeutic exercise as well as clinical rotations.

Baylor University, a mid-size school, has a little more than 14,500 students. Baylor's Athletic Training Education Program educates certified athletic trainers and rewards successful students with a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Athletic Training. The school also offers a master's degree in Athletic Training. Students study the foundations of athletic training, human anatomy, injury assessment, anatomical kinesiology, biomechanics, therapeutic exercise and sports psychology. Clinical education takes place during the last three years of participation in the program.

Marietta College, the smallest school on the Education-Portal.com list, has fewer than 2,000 students. The school's Department of Sports Medicine prepares students to enter the field of athletic training and other medical and allied health professions. Marietta's graduates have gone on to higher levels of education and entered sports medicine, physical therapy, exercise physiology and other fields. Students study different levels of courses in areas like sports medicine and biology and go through at least four clinical field experiences. They must maintain at least a minimum 2.75 GPA to graduate.
