Substance Abuse Counselor Schools

Substance abuse counselors assist clients with addiction problems like drugs, alcohol, eating disorders or gambling. They may counsel groups or individuals and will often develop educational and recovery programs for the public. While counseling-related occupations require only a bachelor's degree, a master's degree is necessary to become a licensed independent substance abuse counselor. These master's programs often prepare students to maintain the necessary state licenses to practice.
