The University of California, Berkeley, has an annual enrollment of almost 36,000 students. The school comprises 14 colleges and schools and it offers more than 130 different areas of study. UC Berkeley offers students undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees. The most popular area of study at the school is engineering, with almost 1,000 students choosing electrical engineering as their major. The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) might not roll off the tongues of those discussing engineering colleges, but the school has produced 31 students who have won the Nobel Prize. Caltech has a small student body, with an annual average of around 2,100. Two of Caltech's six academic concentrations are focused on engineering: chemistry and chemical engineering, and engineering and applied science. Caltech is ranked at the top of the schools that receive the most annual U.S. patents.
