The Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) is a campus-based university located in the village of Nilore on the outskirts of Islamabad. The university is split into two faculties, Engineering and Applied Sciences, with eight departments between them. These range from Mechanical Engineering to Medical Sciences and Physics and Applied Mathematics. The campus is 150 acres in size and is home to student accommodation, workshops, labs, lecture halls and conference rooms. Students also benefit from a cafeteria and indoor and outdoor sports amenities. The university is made up of 90 full-time faculty members working across a range of engineering and science subjects. In 2006 the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan placed PIEAS as the number one engineering university in Pakistan.

The National University of Sciences and Technology, or NUST as it is more commonly known, was established in 1991 when the Pakistani government merged existing military schools together. Today the university is a multi-campus institution with buildings in Islamabad, where the main campus is based; along with Rawalpindi, Risalpur and Karachi. As of 2010 the university had a student population of 6,000, of which close to 900 were postgraduates and 100 were international. In addition, NUST has more than 700 full-time faculty staff members who work across the university's 16 different schools. These range from the Military College of Engineering and the School of Art, Design and Architecture, to the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the School of Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering. Students at the various campuses benefit from the facilities which include tennis and badminton courts, fitness studios, volley ball courts and cafeterias. According to the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, NUST is the country's second best engineering university. The QS World University Rankings also placed NUST at number 350.

The University of Engineering and Technology is in north Lahore on the Grand Trunk Road. The university dates back to 1921, when it was opened as the Mughalpura Technical College. Today the university is spread over four campuses, the Faisalabad campus, the Kala Shah Kaku campus, the Rachna College and the main campus in Lahore. The university has an enrollment of 8,865 students; 640 of whom are from overseas and was ranked 501 in the QS World University Ranking in 2008. Students can choose from 84 undergraduate and postgraduate programs from the university's seven different schools. These include electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, chemical mineral and metallurgical engineering, architecture and planning, natural sciences and humanities and business and management.
