Founded in 1785, the University of Georgia was the first state-chartered university in America. The four-year university is home to more than 380 buildings on 615 acres, and provides more than 170 fields of study that culminate in awards at the bachelor's, master's, and doctorate levels.
A member of the Southeastern Conference, the University of Georgia competes in nine men's varsity sports and 12 women's varsity sports at the NCAA Division I level. The University of Georgia's mascot is Uga, who roots for the institution's athletic teams. Uga is a white English bulldog who received his name as an abbreviation for the University of Georgia, and made his first appearance during the 1950s. The mascot wears a spiked collar and boasts his own doghouse by the stadium. When the bulldog passes away, he is actually buried within the confines of the stadium and is replaced with a similar-looking mascot, according to the university's athletic website.

The Georgia Institute of Technology, also referred to as Georgia Tech, is a research university dedicated to enhancing the human condition through advanced science and technology. The Atlanta campus is located on 400 acres in Atlanta and is home to 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students focused on earning a technological education.
The black and yellow bee known as Buzz serves as the mascot for Georgia Tech, which competes athletically as the Yellow Jackets. Buzz began appearing at athletic events during the 1980s and was eventually adopted by the Georgia Tech cheerleaders. Buzz roots for Georgia Tech at every football game and home basketball games.

Georgia State University is a public four-year university in Atlanta, Georgia. Established in 1913, the university is the second largest four-year institution in Georgia, offering more than 250 areas of study, and degrees at the bachelor's, master's, and doctorate levels. The university has an enrollment of more than 27,000 undergraduate and graduate students at six colleges.
Athletically, Georgia State University competes at the NCAA Division I level in 16 sports. The school's mascot is called Pounce, a 6-foot panther who possesses a 3-foot tail. The mascot can be found at various Georgia State University athletic events, including basketball games. The mascot also makes appearances at local hospitals, charities, and schools. According to the Georgia State University website, Pounce enjoys visiting the Atlanta Zoo, dancing, and watching ESPN.
