Ranked in 2008 by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best colleges and universities, Anderson University is a private Christian university established by the Church of God. The university offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate programs of study, with approximately 2,700 students in attendance. Students interested in broadcast journalism can earn a bachelor's degree through the communication and theatre arts department. The program offers hands-on training, and many students start working in live radio or television as early as their freshman year. The university has an FM radio station---WQME---where undergraduates can get newscasting experience. In addition, students interested in television have local internship opportunities available.

With eight campuses throughout the state, Indiana University offers its students a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism, with a concentration in broadcasting. After completing basic journalism courses, broadcast students can take six broadcast-specific courses, including broadcast news, advanced broadcast news and television news. Students can end their training at Indiana University with a research course in broadcast media analysis. The College of Journalism also requires its students to have a second concentration in a field not related to journalism. The university claims that its graduates are prepared to work in a variety of environments and positions. Students also learn outside of the classroom by visiting various news organizations.

Butler University offers its students a Bachelor of Arts degree in electronic media studies. Students can specialize in electronic journalism or critical media studies. In the electronic media program, students will learn about news, entertainment and sports reporting. Broadcast students learn how to write, edit, direct and even be an on-air personality. In addition, students study media ethics and law, and the media's effect on society.
