Schools That Carry Strong BA Degrees in Photography

Digital photography has dramatically increased the interest in photography as a career. Many schools have appeared offering degrees in photography, but the course offerings and education are far from top-notch. The hallmark of a good photography program is when it consistently turns out highly skilled professionals. The following schools offer quality undergraduate degree programs as well as graduate degree studies.
  1. Rochester Institute of Technology

    • Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) has one of the country's best undergraduate and graduate degree photography programs. RIT offers students five bachelor's degree programs in photography. The degree programs include the Bachelor of Fine Arts in advertising photography, Bachelor of Science in biomedical photographic communications, Bachelor of Fine Arts in fine art photography, Bachelor of Fine Arts in photojournalism, and the Bachelor of Science in imaging and photographic technology. Most schools offer a general undergraduate degree in photography with an emphasis in one or more of these specialized fields, but RIT offers more by providing a full degree program in a specialized area of photography. RIT's program gives advertising photography majors the opportunity to specialize in portraiture, architecture, still life or fashion photography. U.S. News & World Report rates RIT's graduate program as one of the top three in the nation.
