Hotel & Restaurant Management Programs in New Jersey

Hotel and restaurant management is an exciting field. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, job prospects in hospitality management are predicted to increase between 2004 and 2014, especially for those holding a degree in restaurant or institutional food service management. Schools in New Jersey offer several programs in hotel, restaurant and hospitality management, including associates in applied science degrees, bachelor's degrees and master's degrees.
  1. Farleigh Dickinson University

    • Farleigh Dickinson University's International School of Hospitality and Tourism Management offers a bachelor's of science degree in hotel and restaurant management. The program requires 51 credits of major-related coursework as well as general education requirements. Classes include nutrition, sanitation and food safety, food and beverage management, concepts in transportation and travel and at least six credits of a foreign language. Students must complete at least 1,200 hours of hands-on work experience in New York City's hospitality industry. Students are also required to attend a global issues in hospitality management seminar or conference outside of the United States. Farleigh Dickinson University also offers a master's degree in hospitality management studies. The 36-credit program is designed to accommodate the schedules of working professionals, offering evening and weekend classes. To qualify for the program, students must be working professionals with experience in the hospitality industry. Coursework includes classes such as global marketing for hospitality executives, discovering the world of wine, international tourism and hospitality law.

    Rutgers School of Business

    • Rutgers School of Business offers a bachelor's degree in hospitality management. The program requires 120 credits to complete. Coursework includes classes such as foundations of hospitality management, principles of marketing, supply chain strategy in hotels and restaurants and advanced culinary management. According to the program's website, the degree prepares students for careers in hotel management, food and beverage operations or casino management.

    Mercer County Community College

    • Mercer County Community College offers a hotel, restaurant and institution management program leading to an associate in applied science degree. The program requires 65 credits to complete. Coursework includes hospitality success skills, sanitation and safety in food service operations, hospitality law, food and culture and hospitality marketing. Students can choose a full-time or part-time schedule. Most classes are offered during the day and in the evenings and some are available on the weekends. Students must complete an internship in a restaurant or hotel in order to graduate.
