Physical Therapy Programs in New Jersey

Physical therapy is a professional degree that requires a rigorous educational program. Those interested in pursuing physical therapy as a career will be dedicating themselves to diagnosing and treating others who have physical ailments. New Jersey has many places where you can earn a degree in Physical Therapy. Of the 31 colleges and universities in New Jersey, quite a few offer degrees in Physical Therapy.
  1. Seton Hall University School of Health and Medical Sciences

    • Seton Hall University, a private institute of higher education, is located approximately 14 miles from New York City in South Orange, New Jersey. The program offered at Seton Hall is a Doctor of Physical Therapy. This 120 credit-hour, four year commitment, is geared toward practicing clinicians who want to further their knowledge and education. In order to qualify for the doctoral program, a student must hold a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited school, have completed the GRE in the last five years, and have completed 50 hours of clinical experience. Seton Hall's program provides students with extensive education on both theory and application of Physical Therapy. It also places a strong emphasis on current research in the field.

    University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Health Related Professions

    • The University of Medicine and Dentistry School of Health Related Professions (UMDNJ) in New Jersey is highly regarded among healthcare facilities and healthcare professionals. It has teamed up with Rutgers University Graduate School to offer a 3-year Physical Therapy program in the Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Sciences. Currently, UMDNJ has three Physical Therapy program options; Entry-level, Post-Professional, and Doctor of Physical Therapy. The entry-level program is for those students who currently hold a Bachelor or Master's degree in a field other than Physical Therapy. The other two programs meet the educational needs of those currently holding a Bachelor or Master degree in Physical Therapy. Upon graduation, students will have either earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree or Post-Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
      As with most Physical Therapy programs, this one also places a lot of emphasis on clinical experience in under-served communities. Many Physical Therapists spend a lot of time working with this population because access to good health care is limited.

    The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey School of Graduate and Continuing Studies

    • Richard Stockton College of New Jersey Doctor of Physical Education offers its students two program options. The Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy is a program designed for those students who do not currently hold a Physical Therapy degree. The Post Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy program, on the other hand, meets the needs of those with Physical Therapy degrees and licensure. Upon graduation, students will receive one of the following; Doctor of Physical Therapy or Post-Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy. Both programs offer an in-depth look at the field of Physical Therapy. Through clinical experience, research, and a close relationship with faculty, students graduating from these two programs are very well prepared to take on the challenges this profession holds.
