Hospitality & Restaurant Management Schools

The study of hospitality and restaurant management at the college level opens the door to an international career. Students are expected to complete four years of study to earn a bachelor's degree, and it is suggested that all hospitality majors study abroad sometime during that four-year period. Schools in the United States and internationally are recognized for graduating well-trained business majors, with concentrations in fields including casino management, tourist attraction management and wine management. All include the study of restaurant management.
  1. Cornell University

    • Cornell University founded its School of Hotel Administration in 1922, when the curriculum was requested by leading hoteliers and the American Hotel Association. It was the first college program dedicated to hotel administration. Students today gain hands-on experience while working in the campus-owned Statler hotel.

Several joint degree programs have been established. The Nanyang Technological University in Singapore works in conjunction with Cornell, and 50 students per year split their education between Singapore and Ithaca, New York. The school also partners with the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, where students earn a dual degree: bachelor of science in hotel administration and an associate in occupational studies in culinary arts. The degree programs include bachelor of science, master of management in hospitality and a Ph.D. in hotel administration.

    Fairleigh Dickinson University

    • Fairleigh Dickinson University's campuses in Teaneck and Madison, New Jersey, offer bachelor's and master's degree programs in hotel and restaurant management at their International School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. The oldest program of its kind in the metropolitan New York area, the school's four-year program includes 1,200 hours of work experience in New York hotels and restaurants. Courses include casino management, club management, food and beverage management, lodging management and tourism, convention and event management. The on-campus Marriott Center provides hands-on experience from the beginning of the course of study.
