Purdue offers a wildlife major in its school of Forestry and Natural Resources. Students apply knowledge from the fields of biology, ecology and economics to develop and administer management plans. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Science Degree and are eligible to apply for certification as a Wildlife Biologist with the Wildlife Society.
The University of Arizona has one of the nation's most respected wildlife management programs at its School of Natural Resources and the Environment in Tucson. The school offers both undergraduate and masters degrees. Students examine the biology of wildlife and how wildlife populations interact with each other and with the human population. The school has concentrations in fisheries conservation, watershed management and rangeland ecology, among others.
K-State's College of Agriculture offers a four-year degree program in Wildlife and Outdoor Enterprise Management. This trains students for the job of managing an outdoor experience company, such as a hunting preserve, gamebird production company or backcountry hiking enterprise.
Brigham Young, in Provo, Utah, has a department of Plant and Wildlife Sciences, which offers courses in four different disciplines -- genetics and biotechnology; environmental science; landscape management; and wildlife and wildlands conservation. The latter is directed at the work of managing wildland ecosystems, optimizing their function and services, and prepares students for work in a range of jobs in wildlife biology and conservation.
