List of Colleges Providing PGCE Course for Teaching

Teaching can be a very rewarding career and many graduates decide to go into this profession at the end of university. For graduates in the United Kingdom there is the opportunity to study for the PGCE (post graduate certification in education), a one-year course that will enable them to become qualified teachers within a short space of time.
  1. Brunel University

    • Brunel University offers courses that specialize in secondary school education with the emphasis being on science and mathematics. There are other courses available including secondary school physical education and primary school certification. These postgraduate courses give the students an insight into the professional world of teaching and help them to gain understanding of what to expect from a teaching career. The courses on offer at Brunel University can be studied full time or part time as is the students preference although both options require students to participate in practical teaching sessions at a secondary school. As with a majority of PGCE courses, the ones taught at Brunel are modular and cover important items such as professional conduct, teaching strategies and subject knowledge.

    King's College

    • Located in the United Kingdom's capital city, King's College of London offers graduates the opportunity to study for a specialist qualification in secondary school education. The modular course is full time over a period of 36 weeks and in this time students learn things such as lesson planning, class room management and core subjects. As part of the course students are placed in schools around London and the surrounding counties where they gain valuable teaching experience. At the end of the year graduates have two options open to them on completion of the course. The first one is to begin their career as a teaching professional by gaining employment and the second is to use the credits they have accrued to put towards completing an M.A. This would be a part-time course and for many it is another way to open doors in the professional world.
