Physical Education Colleges in Illinois

Physical education teachers work in elementary, intermediate and high schools across the U.S. Their main goal is to keep the children active, healthy and interested in physical activity. In order to work as teachers, physical education majors must complete accredited programs and pass their states' teacher certification exams. There are many physical education colleges in Illinois, including Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Aurora University and Northern Illinois University.
  1. Southern Illinois University Carbondale

    • Southern Illinois University in Carbondale offers a 121-credit Physical Education Teacher Education Program that prepares students to become physical education teachers for grades K through 12. The PETE program is successful because students can apply as freshmen or transfer students, and class sizes are small so students have more interaction with experienced professors. Courses in the program include methods of teaching physical education, teaching team sports, motor behavior, student teaching and human physiology. Students can also complete an optional 16-credit-hour coaching minor. Upon graduation, students receive a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a major in Physical Education Teacher Education.
