For students looking to attend a university overseas, Italy offers a wide variety of both liberal arts-based and subject-specific universities from which to choose. Italian universities provide students with the opportunity to study in a European country rich with scholastic history.
  1. The American University of Rome

    • Founded in 1969, The American University of Rome is situated on top of Rome's tallest hill, Janiculum. The university is a private, liberal arts school that offers eight different bachelor's degree programs with 16 concentrations from which to choose. The undergraduate academic departments at the university include the Department of Arts & Humanities, the Department of Business Studies, the Department of Communication & English, the Department of International Relations and the Department of Italian Studies. In 2010, one full semester of undergraduate tuition cost 6,900 Euros. To qualify for application, students must have graduated from high school with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and must have scored at least 500 on each section of the SAT.

    Politecnico di Milano

    • Politechnico di Milano, founded in 1863, specializes in engineering and technology. The university houses 16 departments and 9 individual Schools of Engineering, Industrial Design and Architecture. There are 7 campuses, spread throughout Italy's Lombardy region, which were home to a combined 40,000 students in 2010. Students can pursue four different degree-types at the university--bachelor of science, master of science, specializing master or a doctorate. Tuition for the bachelor of science program was reported in 2010 as being between 800 and 3,300 Euros per academic year and is based on family income.

    Universita Bocconi

    • Founded in Milan in 1902, Universita Bocconi was the first university in Italy to offer a degree in economics. The university is a private research school, the research projects of which are funded by national and supranational institutions. There are five schools within the Universita Bocconi system--the Undergraduate School, the Graduate School, the School of Law, the PhD School and the SDA Bocconi School of Management. Bachelor's, master of science and doctorate degrees are available in the areas of management, economics and law, among other subjects. Tuition and fees are based on family income; for the 2009-2010 academic year, tuition and fees for the bachelor's degree program ranged from 4,428 Euros to 9,958 Euros.
