Golf course administration is a complicated field, and many schools offer degrees and certificates to give aspiring managers a focused study path. The golf industry always needs talented managers who understand the game, business and turf.
  1. Rutgers

    • At the Rutgers Professional Golf Turf Management School, students have a few degree and certificate options. Those interested in focusing on golf course administration may choose a two-year turf management certificate program, while those interested in earning a bachelor’s degree can pursue a bachelor's of science degree in plant science with a horticulture/turf industry option. The two-year certificate includes a 200-hour internship program and curriculum centered on the leadership skills needed by golf course managers. Classes include business communications, golf course construction, practical golf course surveying strategies and managing golf course employees. Applicants are required to have a high school degree, letters of recommendation and at least two years of golf course employment or equivalent experience.

    Michigan State University

    • The Institute of Agricultural Technology at Michigan State University is has a two-year turfgrass management golf course program, a two-year turfgrass management sports and commercial turf program, a four-year turfgrass management option, or a five-year American Sino turfgrass education program. The two-year golf turf management program is a technical training program that prepares students for a career as a golf course superintendent. Course topics include budgeting, turfgrass irrigation, weed management and agricultural technology. Applicants must have a high school degree or equivalent.

    • Canadians love golf, too! At Humber college in Ontario, Canada, students can earn an advanced diploma in business administration-professional golf management. This six-semester program includes two paid internships as well as courses in golf culture, retail, turf management, marketing, finance and human resources. Most of the program focuses on the business of golf, while a small part of the program focuses on the game. Applicants must have a high school diploma, Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
