Rolla Technical Center has certificate programs in registered diagnostic sonography, abdomen sonography, obstetrical/gynecological sonography and registered vascular technologist. Students have classes two evenings a week until the clinical schedule begins three months into the program. The clinical schedule is three eight-hour days a week for a total of 24 hours of clinical experience a week. The program is 18 months long. The application process includes an informational session criminal background check, two essays and career shadowing. The technical center is a one hour and 45 minute drive from Columbia.

St. Louis Community College offers certificate of proficiency programs in medical sonography, cardiac sonography and vascular technology. The programs include classroom work and 1,400 hours of clinical education in an affiliated clinical site. The program is comprised of 42 credit hours. Applicants must complete all pre-requisite courses prior to applying. They also must hold associate degrees. St. Louis Community College is one hour and 59 minutes from Columbia.

St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City has an 18-month certificate program in diagnostic medical sonography. The hospital has one-on-one clinical instruction and one faculty member for every five students in lecture courses. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or be a graduate of a two-year allied health program. Applicants also must complete an eight-hour observation session in the sonography department. Columbia is two hours and five minutes from St. Luke’s Hospital.

Cox College, part of Cox Health Systems, offers a 21-month training program for diagnostic medical sonography. The curriculum consists of lecture classes, simulated labs and intensive clinical training. Applicants must be graduates of an accredited radiologic technology program and be American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART) registered or be eligible for registration. The college is two hours and 55 minutes from Columbia.
