Geomatics Engineering Schools

A degree in geomatics engineering allows a graduate to enter a highly specialized career field that focuses on land surveying, environmental infrastructure development and other areas geared to develop spatial data about the world. This career field is relatively new, having begun in 1969 according to the engineering department at the University of Calgary, and utilizes some of the most modern technology available to science to compile data.
  1. Purdue University

    • Purdue University's department of civil engineering carries several programs in geomatics engineering, including an undergraduate minor in land surveying, a master's degree in geomatics engineering and a doctoral program in geomatics engineering. The programs educate a student in global resources and environmental infrastructure, providing basic elements of the discipline for undergraduates and expanding on a graduate student's areas of interest at the master's and doctoral levels. Graduate and doctoral programs are also flexible to enable students to work with faculty to conceive a curriculum that meets professional goals.

    North Carolina A&T State University

    • North Carolina A&T offers a four-year undergraduate degree in geomatics engineering that focuses on areas of mathematics, science, geospatial analysis, cartography, land surveying and geodetic science. This degree allows engineering students to enter the field as land and boundary surveyors and land development specialists, and prepares them to complete the Fundamentals of Land Surveying Exam, which grants professional certification as a surveying engineer.

    Schulich School of Engineering

    • The Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary houses a geomatics engineering department that offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs. The total program size for the undergraduate program barely exceeds 50 students and is designed to give personal attention to each student. Graduate programs in geomatics focus on advanced levels of study, with graduate students regularly teaching undergraduate engineering classes.
