The first section of the code, “Definitions,” defines some of the discipline-related terms that appear throughout the conduct code. Such terms include "student," "notice," "days," "hearing coordinator," "hearing officer," and "dean."
This second section establishes the jurisdiction of the university in enforcing discipline and outlines the actions that constitute misconduct. Such actions include academic dishonesty, theft, disorderly behavior, use of controlled substances or alcohol, possession or use of weapons, and unauthorized use or sale of university materials.
The third section provides the dean of students with guidelines for responding to instances of student misconduct. For example, a dean can impose sanctions on accused students who admit their responsibility. For students who deny misconduct, the case is referred to the Student Conduct Committee, which executes a hearing to determine whether misconduct has occurred.
This section of the UCLA Code of Conduct outlines rules for interim and emergency suspension, which are independent of the other disciplinary actions and imposed to preserve the safety and integrity of the university community.
These two short sections establish limitations on the sharing of disciplinary records of students and describe the method to make changes to the conduct code.
