At the Baccalaureate level, the degrees become more focused and the programs are more detailed. One option is to study computers from the perspective of software design. For this, most colleges offer Computer Science degrees which teach programming and software design fundamentals. This degree can be enhanced by specializing in networking, security or databases.
The degree of Electrical Engineering encompasses the design, production, installation, and repair of computer hardware components. This degree can be further focused on any of these areas or one of several sub-fields such as robotics, lasers, and artificial intelligence. The line between different programs can become blurred in some fields, such as artificial intelligence, which requires an understanding of both hardware and software design.
