The medical laboratory technician associate of applied science degree is offered during the day and in a combination of evenings and weekends at Pima Community College to accommodate working schedules.
The curriculum prepares students for professional competence in hospital, clinic, and office settings. The curriculum includes general and field-specific courses that may later be applied toward a bachelor of applied science in medical technology. Courses include "Biomedical Ethics," "Hematology," "Bacteriology," "Microbiology," and "Immunology."
Students participate in a number of clinical placements throughout the program to continuously apply and perfect newly learned skills and techniques. Applicants to the program should have completed prerequisite courses in chemistry, anatomy, physiology, algebra, and biology.

The medical laboratory technology program at Darton College is a two-year curriculum that may be taken fully in-class or through a combination of classroom and distance learning. Distance students complete course curriculum online while attending clinical laboratory courses at Darton College or Georgia Highland's College. This 70 semester-hour program includes courses in human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, chemistry and algebra. The final semester is comprised of the medical laboratory technology externship and related seminars. Two years in length when completed in full time studies, the program may be taken on a part time basis as well. Applicants to the program should have a high school diploma with a strong background in science and math.

River Valley Community College offers a clinical laboratory technician associate in science degree that is accredited by the National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. It is a comprehensive two-year program that runs consecutively throughout five semesters of study. The curriculum includes courses in Pathogenic Microbiology, Serology, Hematology and Clinical Chemistry. In addition to in-class studies, students participate in 20 weeks of clinical experience on a full-time basis in hospital and clinic settings.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification is required prior to commencing clinical placements. Prospective students must possess a high school diploma or equivalent with courses in algebra, biology, chemistry, and English.
