Sonography students will l learn professional ethics, how efficiently monitor a patient when sonography is being performed, and how to adequately read a patient's chart. Students also learn basic medical terminology and how to identify and use ultrasound equipment in this course.
In the physics of sonography course, students learn how sound waves are created and how they work in the science of sonography. A study of the Doppler, pulsed sound and other physical principles involved in sonography is also a part of this particular course. Students also gain an understanding of the biological effects of using ultrasound on the human body.
Students in the sonography program are also required to take a course specializing in anatomy and abdominal sonography. These courses can often be put together as one in many training programs. The course familiarizes students with the workings of the human body, focusing especially on the abdominal region. The student learns about the placement and function of internal organs, vascular structures, and how diseases progress through these organs and systems.
Students must also take a course in vascular sonography, which provides information and an understanding of Doppler sonography and how it affects the the arterial system. The course studies the blood and diseases and other issues that affect the circulatory system.
