Computer Information Systems--Networking Specialist Associate of Applied Technology

• Atlanta Technical College offers and Associate of Applied Technology degree in computer information systems. Although the major focus is on computer networking, students will receive a well-rounded education. They will be exposed to the fine arts, sociology and natural sciences. The Networking Specialist Associate of Applied Technology program consists of operating systems courses, such as LINUX and Microsoft Windows. In addition, students will learn about CISCO, taking courses in Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN) and routing. In order to pursue this degree, the student must be at least 16 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.

• At Robert Morris University, students will learn how to design, implement and manage LAN and WAN systems. They will understand the fundamentals of Database Management Systems. Some of the courses that this degree includes systems engineering, routing, internetworking, and operating systems, like LINUX. Students can work as a network installation technician, technical support specialist or computer network analyst. Requirements for entering this program include having a high school diploma or GED and a grade point average of 2.0.

IT Network Specialist Associate in Applied Science Degree

• This degree is offered by Milwaukee Area Technical College. Students will learn how to design, install and troubleshoot security on personal computers, networks, as well as operating systems. Some of the hardware that students will work with includes routers, servers and switches. The IT Network Specialist Associate degree gets students ready for certifications, such as Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA 2003), Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Network+ and Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP). To get into this program, the student must have a high school diploma, one semester of high-school or college-level algebra, and be proficient in basic skills via a course placement assessment.
