In the opposite direction from Canton, SUNY Delhi is about 120 miles south of Syracuse. Delhi is literally an original; it was the first school to offer a veterinary technology program. Like Canton, Delhi offers an associate degree in vet tech and a four-year program in vet management. Students in these programs have access to lab space, surgical facilities, kennels, and on-campus interactions with animals as different as pigs and monkeys.

Alfred State College, to the south and west of Syracuse, is easily accessible by Interstates 81 and 86. This SUNY school offers a two-year program in Veterinary Technology. A great benefit for Alfred students is the college's proximity to Cornell University's prestigious veterinary school. This allows the two colleges to share information, resources, and a course-credit transfer agreement.
