Programs to Become a Hypnotherapist

A hypnotherapist uses techniques of hypnosis to help people recover memories, deal with past traumas or to reach goals such as losing weight or quitting smoking. To receive professional credentialing from organizations like the American Council for Hypnotist Examiners or the National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists, you must acquire a minimum number of hours of training specifically in hypnotherapy. A small number of schools in the United States offer programs that fulfill these hypnotherapy training requirements.
  1. Hypnotherapy Training Institute

    • Located in Santa Rosa, California, the Hypnotherapy Training Institute has the accreditation and approval of the California Bureau of Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education, the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners and the California State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. The school offers four levels of hypnotherapy training, each of which requires 50 hours of coursework. The first level covers the basics of hypnosis, such as its history, misconceptions surrounding the field and hypnotic techniques. The second through fourth levels include instruction in advanced techniques like those used during childbirth and memory regression. Classes are held either once each week on weekends for five consecutive weeks or daily for five days. The latter program is typically intended for students who live out of the Santa Rosa area and are traveling specifically to attend the school.
