The school opened in 1981 and offers one- to five-day courses that count toward training hours in hypnotherapy certification. Among the courses offered at the Academy are eye movement integration therapy, unspoken language for therapeutic change, neuro-linguistic programming, psychotherapy and hypnosis, smoking cessation, inner conflict resolution, pain management and childbirth and therapeutic stories and metaphor. Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the Hypnotherapy Academy of America is approved by the International Board of Hypnotherapy. The school offers a 300-hour introductory program in hypnotherapy that lasts for six weeks. Topics covered in the first level include introductory therapeutic hypnosis techniques, metaphor therapy, trauma reversal, insomnia treatment and memory regression.
