Colleges for DNA Analysis in Maryland

Analyzing DNA helps police identify victims and perpetrators of crimes through samples of blood, hair, saliva or skin cells. DNA analysts are forensic scientists that receive training and education in forensic science in the form of two- or four-year college degrees and may even pursue a graduate degree in forensic science. In Maryland, several programs are available that teach DNA analysis as part of a degree in forensic science.
  1. University of Baltimore

    • The Bachelor of Science in Forensic Studies at the University of Baltimore teaches students the scientific facets of crime scene investigations. Once general studies requirements are complete, students concentrating their studies in the forensic science emphasis will take classes such as laboratory safety, trace evidence collection, microscopy and instrument analysis. Students also complete an internship in forensic science.

    Towson University

    • Towson University offers a graduate-level program in forensic science, concentrating on chemistry, math and biology as well as laboratory instruction. Because the program bases its foundation on biology, DNA analysis is emphasized. The coursework for the program meets the American Academy of Forensic Sciences accreditation requirements. Students will study DNA technology, forensic chemistry and microscopy, biostatistics and death analysis. An internship, research project or thesis in forensic sciences completes the program.
