The Chemical Dependency Professional program at Bellevue College is a 90-credit program that may be reduced to 45 credits upon assessment of previous academic experience. Students in this program learn about the causes of chemical dependency, individualized treatment programs and case management in the field. Programs in the course include: chemical dependency assessment and diagnosis; chemical dependency relapse prevention; chemical dependency ethics; and laws and psychopathology of chemical dependence. Students must obtain 1000 to 2500 hours of practical experience and take the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) level 1 examination for employment as a chemical dependency professional.

The Alcohol and Chemical Dependency program at Edmunds Community College is a two-year course and requires 90-quarter credit hours for completion. Individuals with relevant post-secondary education may have their transcripts assessed for credit transferability for reduced program requirements. The curriculum includes clinical placements in addition to classroom learning. Courses in the program include: group counseling for chemical dependency professionals; case management; and pharmacology and physiology of alcohol and drugs. Graduates of this program are prepared to take the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors licensure examination.

Seattle Central Community College offers a Chemical Dependency Specialist program that varies in length depending on the prospective student's previous post-secondary education. The program prepares students for a career in chemical dependency facilities, residential institutions and detoxification facilities. However, the credits earned in this program are not transferable to advanced post-secondary programs. The program's curriculum includes: principles of interviewing and counseling; adolescent development and treatment; and chemical dependency case management. Students take part in field placements in both individual and group counseling sessions.

Spokane Falls offers both an Associate of Applied Science degree and Certificate in Human Services in Chemical Dependency Degree program. The certificate program is available to students with an adequate amount of previous college work. Students in the program become familiar with the causes of drug abuse; the social services available to those with dependency problems; and the counseling techniques involved in dependency treatment. Students have the opportunity to utilize the techniques learned in class in clinical placements.
