Established in 1946, Montgomery College is a public community college in the metropolitan Baltimore community of Rockville. Today the two-year college hosts associate degree and certificate programs of study, in addition to continuing education coursework. Montgomery's Workforce & Continuing Education division presents studies in green energy and sustainability management in conjunction with the Green Building Institute. Each of Montgomery's green energy courses is designed to educate the general public. Clean & Renewable Energy: Solar Thermal and Solar Electric is a single session solar energy training course that teaches students solar energy theory, government incentive programs and structural requirements for commercial and residential buildings.

Anne Arundel Community College is a public two-year college in the suburban central Maryland community of Arnold. Founded in 1961, the college has a record of sustainability and green initiatives that dates back to the establishment of the college's environmental center in 1980. Today students interested in solar energy training can matriculate into Anne Arundel's Alternative and Sustainable Energy Systems certificate program. As part of the semester long training program, students will explore and evaluate solar photovoltaic systems both in theory and through laboratory and fieldwork experiences. Anne Arundel students can further study solar design through the college's various sustainable architecture and interior design program options.

Frostburg State University is a public four-year university in rural northern Maryland.
