Founded in 1968, the Center for Dredging Studies is part of the Ocean Engineering Program at the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering and the Texas Engineering Experiment Station located at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. Although the Center for dredging studies was set up as a research institution, it offers two dredging courses every year. These are the dredging engineering short course and the cutter suction dredge simulator short course.
The dredging engineering short course involves the foundations of dredging and encompasses classes in fluid mechanics, geotechnical engineering, environmental factors and management strategies, while the cutter suction dredge simulator course includes classes on cavitation, pump power limitations, pipeline length restrictions and swing winch limitations.
The Training Institute for Dredging offers training courses in dredging that range from the basic fundamentals of dredging to specialized training involving dredging operations, technologies and equipments. Based in the Netherlands, the TID offers specialized training packages for employees of companies that make use of dredging techniques.
Open courses encompass general dredging, advanced pump and slurry, beaver engineer and operator training and radio active concentration. Tailor-made courses include safety on board dredging equipment, hydraulics, cutter and hopper operator and engineer courses and pumps and slurries, as well as others.
If you are looking for some solid training schools for dredging, then the CDs and TID are two of your main options. They offer comprehensive courses in dredging, but also have massive research and development programs on dredging techniques and ensure their courses encompass the latest cutting-edge technology.
