Founded in 1887, Gonzaga University is a Jesuit school with a 131-acre campus along the Spokane River. The school enrolls nearly 7,000 students, helping them "discover how to integrate science and art, faith and reason, action and contemplation." Gonzaga offers 43 majors for undergraduates, 26 Master's degree programs, one Ph.D. option and a juris doctorate through its law school. Though the school is Roman Catholic, students of all beliefs are welcome and 24 faiths are represented on campus. Undergraduate tuition is $29,675 a year, though the school offers scholarships and aid, based on merit and need.

Whitworth University, formerly known as Whitworth College, was founded in 1890 and is a private liberal arts school associated with the Presbyterian Church. The school enrolls approximately 2,500 undergraduate students and more than 300 Master's degree students and has 142 faculty members. There is a student-teacher ratio of 13:1 and 85 percent of all classes enroll less than 30 pupils. Whitworth requires undergraduates to live on campus for two years and does not enforce any policy of separating male and female students in the dormitories. Undergraduate tuition is $29,890 a year, and the school offers reduced rate for adult evening students as well as various scholarships.

Spokane Falls Community College is a two-year school with more than 8,000 students which offers associate's degrees. Courses at the school are designed for easy transfer into four-year institutions, assisting students who wish to pursue bachelor's degrees, which roughly one-third of graduates accomplish. Spokane Falls students can study subjects like interior design and education, and the school also offers certificate programs, such as graphic design and photography. Tuition is $2,800 a year, and Washington state employees and those over 60 years of age may qualify for waivers, allowing them to attend for free.
