Atlanta Music Schools

Atlanta is home to several colleges that offer various degree programs in the music field. Colleges vary in what kind of degrees they offer, but most offer some type of program in musical performance or music education. The level of degree offered can vary as well. Students have opportunities to obtain both undergraduate and graduate degrees in various aspects of the music field.
  1. Georgia State University

    • Georgia State University (GSU) offers multiple undergraduate and graduate degree options in the field of music. At the bachelor's degree level, the primary degree offered at GSU is the Bachelor of Music. Students can pursue this degree in a variety of fields: music performance, music education, music composition, jazz studies, music production and recording (music technology) and music management. At the graduate degree level, GSU offers three different graduate degree options. Students can pursue a master of music in several different areas of concentration, or they can pursue an education specialist (Ed.S.) degree or the doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.).

    Atlanta Christian College

    • Atlanta Christian College is a second option for Atlanta area students wanting to pursue higher education studies in music. Because it is a Christian college, it offers some degree programs that prepare students for professional music ministry in the church or similar settings. However, the school also offers traditional music degrees, including a bachelor of science and a bachelor of arts degree in music. Both degrees are offered in conjunction with a religious studies minor. The three primary areas of concentration students can pursue are music performance, pedagogy and music ministry.

    Morehouse College

    • Morehouse College is a historically black college for men that offers students the opportunity to study music as part of its liberal arts program. Students can choose to major in music and graduate with a bachelor of arts degree. Various concentrations are offered by the department of music. These include various areas of performance such as voice, piano, organ, brass, woodwinds and strings. Concentrations are also available in conducting, composition and music literature. Students also can choose to minor in the field if they have met certain departmental prerequisites.

    Art Institute of Atlanta

    • The Art Institute of Atlanta offers students interested in the study of music a different kind of opportunity. The institute's degree program in the field of media arts can prepare students for a career in the music recording and production industry. The institute offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in audio production that introduces students to audio production in a wide variety of media. Students must complete a total of 192 credit hours in fields such as Audio Recording, Sound Design and Music Fundamentals.
