Marine Corps ROTC Schools

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) is administered as a part of the the Naval ROTC program. Through the program, students receive money to help cover the cost of their tuition and other fees at a participating university. After graduation, students become commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. A large number of private and public colleges participate in the Marine Corps ROTC, including some top-ranked institutions.
  1. Duke University

    • The United Methodist Church established Duke University in Durham, North Carolina in 1838. With an enrollment of more than 14,300 undergraduate and graduate students, the college ranked ninth among all universities in the United States in the "U.S. News and World Report" "Best Colleges 2011" ratings.

      The Marine Corp ROTC program at Duke requires students to complete coursework in amphibious warfare, calculus, physics, computer science, English, marine leadership and the evolution of warfare. Cadets must participate in two runs each week before classes begin as a part of the program.

      Students in the Marines ROTC program can pursue any major. Undergraduate majors are offered through Duke's Trinity College of Arts & Sciences, Pratt School of Engineering, Nicholas School of the Environment and Sanford School of Public Policy. Public policy, political science and economics are the top-rated academic programs, while biology, psychology and history are its largest in terms of enrollment, according to the "2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges."

    University of Southern California

    • A private, nonsectarian institution, the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California, has a combined undergraduate and graduate enrollment of more than 34,000 students. "U.S. News and World Report" rated the school 23rd among all universities in the United States in its "Best Colleges 2011" ratings.

      The Marine Corps ROTC program requires students to take courses in calculus, physics, English, physical sciences like chemistry, algebra, national security policy, naval science, leadership and management, navigation, weaponry and ethics. Students may major in any field but are counseled on their major choices by a military adviser at the university. The college offers more than 150 majors, and its largest programs are business, engineering and communications, explains the "2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges."

    Cornell University

    • A private Ivy League institution, Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, is home to more than 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The college received the 15th-place ranking among all universities in the United States in the "U.S. News and World Report" "Best Colleges 2011" ratings.

      The Marine Corps ROTC program at Cornell requires students to take classes in physics, calculus, national security or military policy, English, warfare evolution and amphibious warfare. Students have the opportunity to spend a semester studying abroad in countries like Jordan, Spain and Scotland. Students may major in any field, but the chemical, electrical and mechanical engineering programs are the most highly recommended by the college. Other common majors for students in the Marine programs are architecture, atmospheric sciences, biometrics, mathematics, physics and operations research.
