How to Learn About New Jersey State Colleges

New Jersey state colleges and universities include nine state colleges and universities, and three public research colleges. The enrollment in these schools totaled over 100,000 in 2009 according to the New Jersey Association of State Colleges and Universities. Some well-known institutions include Rutgers University, New Jersey's largest campus with a student body of 30,000, and the much smaller New Jersey Institute of Technology campus with a student body of nearly 6,000. Both Rutgers and NJIT have tier one national rankings according to the U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges report. Local boards of trustees, entrusted with authority by autonomy laws of 1985 to 1986, govern New Jersey state colleges and universities. The NJASCU says this autonomy is largely responsible for the tradition of educational excellence in New Jersey state funded higher education.
