  1. New York University Tisch School of the Arts

    • Conservatory training, including acting, directing, musical theater, film and television production, theatrical design and stage management, is offered at Tisch in lower Manhattan. Instructors well-known in their fields and guest artists provide in-depth instruction. The rigorous schedule includes study abroad and practical training and performances.

      Your character and potential for success are measured when advancing through the admissions process and it is helpful to include intensive extracurricular activities in the dramatic arts when applying for one of the few openings.

      Actors Adam Sandler, Woody Allen, Alec Baldwin and Marisa Tomei are a few of the noted graduates of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

    The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts

    • Originally named the School for Film and Television, the Conservatory is a specialized acting school training students to act in front of the camera. The two-year program admits only 180 new students each year. All teachers are working professionals bringing practical experience to their classes. With knowledge in acting and the business of being an actor, graduates leave with a well-rounded education.

      Teaching techniques include integrating stage performance with acting for the camera. Conservatory students have opportunities to act for and meet many of the prominent talent agents and casting directors throughout New York City. Matthew Fox, John Sussman and John-Paul Lavoisier are a few of the working graduates.

      The Conservatory has a summer program and offers individual classes as well as their full program.

    University of Southern California--Los Angeles

    • The University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts has the advantage of being in the film capital of the United States. Faculty members are working professionals. Theory and practice are the base of the training philosophy at USC and all departments, including writing, editing, acting and photography, are combined when projects are presented. The campus has its own sound stage and television facility.

      Acting, design, stage management and technical direction are some of the courses included in the bachelor of fine arts program. USC has joint-educational programs with theater schools in Europe.

    Florida State University-Tallahassee

    • The theater program at Florida State University is nationally recognized as one of the finest in America. Bachelor's degree programs are offered in acting, musical theater and theater. The school also is affiliated with London schools of theater and offers study-abroad programs.

      Practical knowledge is coupled with performances in the school's theatrical complex. The performance season is extensive and productions from the three disciplines are offered every semester. Visiting guest artists and scholars are invited to teach.

      Theater courses dominate the acting program at FSU. A firm foundation in acting for the theater is a strength for any actor. Many graduates move from regional theater to prominent houses in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and London.
