Carson Newman College was founded in 1851 and is located in Jefferson City, Tennessee. It focuses on both academics and its roots in Christianity. Founded in 1866, Milligan College is a Christian liberal arts college that offers students a variety of activities and classes. Milligan has over 20 intercollegiate sports for both men and women and competes in the NAIA Appalachian Athletic Conference. Founded as a missionary effort by the United Presbyterian Church of North America, the college began as a school for training of teachers and became designated as a college in 1877. It is a four-year private coeducational college focusing on liberal arts. Knoxville College's tuition is $11,528 per year with the cost of this offset by its mandatory work program. This program requires the students to work 13 hours per week off or on campus. Upon earning $1,000, students are awarded an additional grant that offsets tuition costs.
Lee University is a private college located in Cleveland, Tennessee and was founded in 1918. It has become one of the highest ranked colleges in the South and is continually increasing enrollment. It currently has 4,377 students enrolled, as of 2011. It has more than 70 clubs and organizations and a 17 to 1 student-teacher ratio.
