Colleges in Auburn, Alabama

Auburn, one of the largest cities in Alabama, is best known for being home to Auburn University. Thanks to the academic and athletic successes at Auburn University, the city has expanded in recent years, requiring an increase in available colleges and universities.
  1. Auburn University

    • Auburn University, a public university with more than 25,000 students, is one of the biggest colleges in the state. Despite having admitted its first black student in 1964, Auburn University's campus is home to a wide racial and cultural mix. Students at Auburn can take classes from any one of 13 different schools and colleges, including programs in pharmacy, veterinary science, engineering and business.

    Southern Union State Community College

    • Southern Union State Community College is two-year college located just outside the city of Auburn in Wadley. The school offers different academic possibilities, such as technical, health science and social science curricula. Students at Southern Union are almost entirely from Alabama, though there are many residents from Georgia as well. Students tend to live at home and commute to classes, though there are campus apartments available for students.

    Tuskegee University

    • Tuskegee University is a historically black university located in nearby Tuskegee. The private college boasts more than 30 bachelor's degree programs, 12 master's degree programs and a handful of doctorate degrees. Tuskegee's engineering program is among its most popular. The campus is home to many historic landmarks, including the graves of Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver.

    Huntingdon College

    • Huntingdon College, a liberal arts college in Montgomery, is predominantly a school focused on its business and science programs, though it offers a wide variety of liberal arts courses as well. In 2004, Huntingdon expanded its music program and in recent years its athletic program has gained more student participants as well. Roughly 900 students take classes at Huntingdon, with most living in the campus' available state-of-the-art dormitories.
